I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know how things are going to play out in the world. And you know what? Neither do you. So, we've got that going for ourselves! I can, however, supply you with some educated guesses on what I think is going to happen in the near future. Some of the things may be dependent upon one another. Others may just be an idea that I think will take off. But, in no particular order, these are my thoughts. Raw thoughts......no organization. Straight from my cranium to this computer screen.
I think the global recession is here. And I don't need to be an economist to believe that. I honestly think that I have made more progress on a conceptual level in terms of economic knowledge since I graduated college with an econ degree in 2003 from independent study than I would have made if I had somehow become an actual paid economist for a firm. I'm glad I went to college for economics, as it taught me a lot......but thinking back, I came to the realization that it taught me a lot of dogmatic concepts that, in the real world of the 21st century, do not hold true at all in this ever-changing environment. AT ALL. You have an induced recession in 2008, a faked recovery based on central bank stimulus intervention, and the stage is set now for an even greater recession (in reality, a depression) on top of immense geopolitical conflict. Markets are manipulated millisecondly, so what makes you think that you can turn a profit? Going further, what makes you think that you can turn a profit morally or ethically? Say I buy gold, physical gold, as a "hedge" against a equity/debt market downturn. I buy that gold, and keep it in a safe place because it is a "store of value." Why is it a store of value? What is its purpose besides a store of value? Seriously. I don't know. And that frustrates me. Because a core rupt market says it's a store of value? Because maybe if society falls apart I can trade slithers of gold for ears of corn based on the opposite party's need or greed for the shiny object? So, I have my gold here for a really, deluge-y rainy day.....then I remember that the gold's most likely been mined on the backs of slave labor. That, really, presents a moral conundrum, right? I make a relatively wise investment for the future, but miss the human aspect of it all. Damn. The same can be said about walking in grass......that if I did so, I am most likely killing ants and other flies/bugs. Well damn again. It just all gets me thinking. But that's too philosophical right now....I gotta stick to the theme. So gold is just an option of how to prepare myself. But, prepare myself for what exactly? A police state? Well, what would even spark a police state to take shape? Economic depression, such as hyperinflation, deflation, massive unemployment , a shutdown of the entire economy, massive capital controls, elimination of cash and shutdown of any benefits could all be factors. Perhaps the popping of multiple bubbles (real estate, equities, debt (gov bond, corp bond, student loans, auto loans), leading to a massive credit crunch for a national populace that is wholly unprepared to deal with something like that by design. And by design, I mean being told flat out lies for the entirety of this century (to quantify just a safe time-frame so all can relate). If you can admit that much to yourself, you're on a good path towards figuring things out. Outside attack could also spark a (further) police state......but the way my mind functions, our biggest threat in that realm remains the people we've "elected" to govern us, and the people that control them. It's not too complex. Things are made complex to confuse us......to have us think we need someone else to manage this for us, to manage that. Once your money is withheld from you via capital controls, deposit haircuts or whatever, you're probably going to be pissed. I know I will be. But know this. Your money will be used to fund bnk defaults, and the resolution of a bnk's debt. You'll be dead last on that list of kreditors. That's just a part of it. Think of your inability to spend money now. What if they digitize cash in full? Do you know how confusing that will be for people over 50 years old? That's going to be rough. I think that bnks will consolidate further, but be centrally operated as one group mind through a blockchain technology. I have to do more research on this, but that is where I am leaning in my view of things. Economic downturn reduces your cash first, then cash becomes a banned substance, then coins, then you are only allowed to use the blockchain (technology behind bitcoin) to pay for things. In between there, there's going to be a whole "revolution", and not in the good sense. With the ghun cntrl stuff in the news, you can tell where this is headed. For the crafty, the blaq market will still exist I am sure. And that is another factor highly glossed over in today's news. The amount of funds flowing through the blaq market today is near incalculable. And also, not focused on. It would be very wise to read up on the blaq market. It is a truly wild world out there, right in your own backyard.
Can you deal with Artificial Intelligence? Robotics? The idea of machines learning? I really hate to say it, but this is the path we are headed towards. It's a weird time, to say the least. Not just with the elimination of jobs, but as technology grows, the fable known as privacy will all but be eviscerated. Good times.
Next cause would be racial strife. I just.....man. It's 2016. People have arguably been coming to the shores of the americas since 9,000 B.C. And we still focus on the race issue. It sucks as just a person to listen to racial talk. This isn't the point to living this life. It's a negative focus. We'd all do the world a wonderful service if we were just nice to each other. No need for racial tension in a society that claims to be more technologically advanced than ever before in human history. I don't think that's the case, but we have to be on the intelligence level where race shouldn't really be as big a deal as it is in terms of fear and violence these days. Is that too rad ical a thought? If it is, that's a shame, and I shake my head in disbelief.
Terr or also could play a big role in the further development of a police state. I see it occurring now, depending on the day. While you are worried about fanaticals halfway across the world, people in Michigan get sick due to the poisoning of the water supply with lead. I don't know about you, but the fact that I could be waxing poetic to someone about the danger of I S I S to us as Americans, while I sip a refreshing glass of water that could possibly have lead or some other toxin in there, is pretty ridiculous to me. So very blatant, too, is the message. They don't care about you (your leaders). They've fabricated enemies for you, and fed off of your fear, all while disabling your chance for a good future (economic bubbles) and/or harming you (poison food/water) with an end objective of further privatization and more control over your ever dwindling options.
Why don't people see this?
Natural disaster can play a gigantic part in the wealth of nations, and their future potential. Without trying to get too biblical, what if another deluge happened? What if meteors showered down on parts of the globe from space? What if tsunamis turned to earthquakes which caused volcanos to erupt and bring about a true change in climate beyond anything car bon tax ers thought up? That cannot be ruled out as a possibility. All of this time spent worrying about sales and status and position in society would seem pretty worthless, staring at a real possibility of a catastrophe striking the earth in this era. I think about the ancients, watching and learning from the actual stars. Then I think about the current era, where we are mesmerized by the stars of TV and film. Somebody turn this tv off, quick.
I think a lot of bad may happen in years to come that will shock our current world. I do, however, think that good can come from those who see the things happening now that just seem off to them. Guess it's time to really start getting some ideas down for solutions.
